Dubai-based company Alam Steel and international steel trading company Macsteel have formed a 50-50 joint venture to set up the first steel service center (SSC) in the Middle East. The SSC will specialize in processing high grade steel plates and sections for the petrochemical, mining and earthmoving, shipbuilding, construction, manufacturing and fabrication industries.

The new state-of-the-art facility will be constructed in the UAE's Jebel Ali Free Zone at a total cost of AED 100 million ($27 million).

The new SSC will process the complete range of flat steel, including commercial, structural, pressure vessel, stainless, wear resistant and many other grades using modern machinery. Cut to length as well as drilling services will be available for long steel products. The designed annual processing capacity of the new SSC is 100,000 mt.
