The leading Japanese EAF-based steel producer Tokyo Steel has announced some changes in its local scrap purchase prices, lowering prices in one region, while increasing them in another, seeking to balance scrap purchase prices across its facilities.
The producer’s general price range for H2 grade scrap is currently at JPY 43,500-44,500/mt ($275-282/mt) depending on the mill. The Kansai plant represents the lower end of the general price range, while the upper end is now represented by Tokyo Bay. Including the changes in the exchange rates, the dollar-based prices have declined by $2/mt compared to the levels announced on January 7.
On the other hand, Tokyo Steel’s shindachi scrap prices are in the range of JPY 45,000-47,000/mt ($285-298/mt) delivered, down $2/mt on dollar basis. The prices shared in the table below are effective as of January 10.
