Aiming to provide itself with the required amount of feedstock, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, Tokyo Steel, has decided to adjust its scrap purchase prices for its Tahara plant once again today, October 21, following the adjustments done yesterday.
Accordingly, today, the company hiked its prices for H2 and for shindachi scrap for the abovementioned plant by JPY 1,500/mt (around $13/mt). Consequently, the new levels for H2 scrap have been settled at JPY 52,000-58,500/mt ($456-513/mt), while the company’s purchase prices for shindachi scrap have reached JPY 54,500-64,500/mt ($478-566/mt). The lower end is valid for the Takamatsu plant, while the highest end is for the Tahara plant. All prices are delivered and effective from October 22.
The SteelOrbis reference price for H2 has been increased to JPY 54,000-54,500/mt ($472-476/mt) FOB this week, up by JPY 500/mt ($4/mt) on the higher end and by JPY 2,000/mt ($17/mt) on the lower end, from the range seen last week. This happened in reaction to rising demand from both local and overseas buyers.
