Having kept its prices stable since February 14, Tokyo Steel, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, has announced an increase in its scrap procurement prices today, March 9. Accordingly, the company has raised its purchase prices for H2 and shindachi scrap for all its plants by JPY 3,000/mt ($26/mt).

Tokyo Steel’s new price levels for H2 scrap are now in the range of JPY 58,000-60,000/mt ($501-518/mt), while for shindachi scrap they are at JPY 60,500-64,000/mt ($523-553/mt). All prices are delivered and effective from March 10.

Local scrap prices in Japan are being impacted by the possibility of an acceleration of demand from the export markets in the absence of Russia. Last week, the SteelOrbis reference price for ex-Japan H2 scrap was at JPY 56,500-59,000/mt ($489-511/mt) FOB.
