The leading Japanese EAF-based steel producer Tokyo Steel has cut its domestic scrap procurement price in the Kansai region.
The producer’s general purchase price range for H2 grade scrap is currently at JPY 44,000-44,500/mt ($281-284/mt) depending on the mill. The Kyushu and Tokyo Bay plants still represent the upper end of the general price range. Taking into account the changes in the exchange rate, the dollar-based prices have moved sideways as compared to the levels announced on December 27.
On the other hand, Tokyo Steel’s shindachi scrap prices are in the range of JPY 45,000-47,000/mt ($287-300/mt) delivered, stable on dollar basis. The prices shared in the table below are effective as of January 8.
