Last week, it was believed that US Ohio Valley scrap prices would settle up by roughly $50/gt on HMS up $50/gt on P&S, up $60/gt for shredded scrap, and at up $20/gt for busheling scrap. Final settled prices, however, are firmer than initially expected.
Today, SteelOrbis sources have confirmed that HMS prices have settled up by roughly $65/gt, shredded scrap prices have settled up by approximately $70/gt, and P&S scrap is up by $60/gt. Busheling scrap prices, however, have settled up as predicted.
The primary driving force in higher Ohio Valley scrap prices is linked to several factors, including strong demand, mills coming back online from planned outages, and continued trucking and transportation issues. One source noted that at least one mill in the region paid “well above $530/gt for shredded scrap, because they had to source their scrap from a seller outside of the region.”
