Monthly scrap purchase negotiations are coming to an end in the local Polish scrap market, with most mills’ positions remaining unchanged compared to October. According to one market player, scrap requests are proceeding at a normal pace and there will be no major changes in the market up to the end of the year.
“Polish mills will probably begin to interrupt their operations around mid-December. These are the last contracts this year,” a player at a local Polish mill commented. Most steel producers have chosen to maintain their scrap purchase prices unchanged compared to last month, except for one of the biggest producers in Poland which has decided to increase them by around €5-8/mt (PLN 21-34/mt).
As for exports, the major Polish scrap yards have decided to raise their prices by around €2/mt (PLN 9/mt) and are now paying around €243/mt (PLN 1030/mt) DAP for HMS I scrap.
“I expect a slower market in the following weeks. Pricing probably won’t change much, maybe it will rise a little. Then we will perhaps see the next wave of price increases in January… I hope some healthy demand comes soon,” a source operating in the Polish market commented.
