Local Polish scrap market still uncertain, exports recover

At the end of the SteelOrbis 2026 Spring Conference & 94th IREPAS Meeting held in Amsterdam on April 26-28, SteelOrbis had the opportunity to interview some of the Polish scrap market participants.

One source reported that a major player had halted scrap exports in April to focus on domestic sales, which they deemed more profitable in terms of margins. However, the same source added that in May they are planning to resume competition in the export market, which is currently experiencing a recovery.

The latest deal for Baltic scrap exports to Turkey, in fact, was concluded at $410/mt CFR for HMS I/II 80:20, up $2/mt from the previous SteelOrbis reference price.

Currently, however, purchase prices at export yards are stable at around €290/mt DAP for HMS I scrap.

At the domestic level, demand from mills appears to be stable so far compared to April, with no major surges in scrap purchase prices. Consequently, after a period of substantial stability, the Polish scrap export market may experience some recovery in May.
