New scrap price levels have been disclosed in the local German scrap market. As anticipated in last week’s report, average scrap prices marked a decline by around €5/mt, which is the result of most producers buying at unchanged prices very early in the month of April. Further declines will probably be seen during the May round of purchases.
According to sources, in northern Germany scrap purchase prices by mills declined by €10/mt. In the Eastern part of the country, a mill bought at a €10/mt higher level, but they had a lower positioning last month. In western, southwestern and southern Germany mills bought scrap at unchanged prices.
After the declines in the Turkish import scrap market and the unfavorable euro-dollar exchange (which stood at €1 = $1.15 on April 22), sentiment in the German export market appears negative. A German-based scrap sub-collector received a collection bid from an export yard in the European Union at €230/mt DAP for HMS I/II scrap, which is sharply lower than last week’s collection prices of €260/mt DAP.
At the end of monthly negotiations in Poland, mills are still facing an excess of scrap in their local market, and an important producer lowered their purchased quantities of E8 and E3 scrap by 60 percent, a source reported.
As per local prices to export yards, Poland is following the international trend by lowering collection prices to €260/mt DAP for HMS I/II 80:20, which marks a €15/mt decline compared to last week. A source reported that they are planning to lower the prices further by next week.
According to the latest data provided by the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Stahlrecycling-und Entsorgungsunternehmen e.V, in the first 20 days of April scrap prices moved down by €0.2-6.1/mt month on month. On year-on-year basis, scrap prices indicated declines ranging from €5.7/mt to €28.5/mt.
The prices are provided by Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Stahlrecycling-und Entsorgungsunternehmen e.V. and are average prices for domestic transactions across Germany in the first 20 days of the given month.
