Scrap purchase prices in Russia have not shown a clear trend at the beginning of the new week, being largely weighed on by the unfavorable situation in the local longs market and the overall uncertain situation in Turkey’s import scrap market. As a result, some Russia-based producers have decided to increase their purchase prices slightly in order to offset currency fluctuations, while others have chosen to remain at the levels of the past week.
Baltic region-based scrap exporters, in their turn, have further decreased their A3 grade purchase prices by $11/mt (RUB 500/mt) to $322/mt (RUB 24,000/mt) CPT. “Turkish scrap may drop further and exporters are trying to secure their margins for that case and are trying to buy lower,” a source told SteelOrbis.
