According to market sources, local Italian scrap prices have not changed compared to the previous week. High quality scrap prices are supported by decent demand for flat rolled products and specialty steel, while lower quality scrap prices are weak because of sluggish rebar sales in the domestic market, resulting in reduced rebar production in the past weeks.
Meanwhile, scrap availability is good according to sources. As for the coming period, sources have said that, unless rebar exports to Algeria resume, prices of lower quality scrap could decrease and drag down high quality scrap prices as well.
Average spot prices in the local Italian scrap market are as follows:
Quality | Average spot price (€/mt) |
Turnings (E5) | 210-220 ($229-240/mt) |
HMS (E1/E3) | 235-240 ($256-262/mt) |
