Domestic scrap prices in Turkey remains stable on lira basis

Turkey’s local scrap market has remained stable over the past two weeks, following the international scrap price trend. Turkey’s week-long holiday at the end of May supported the stable trend in the local scrap market, and, now with Turkish mills’ lack of urgency to buy scrap, this sideways movement is expected to continue in the first weeks of June. Only one Turkish mill has announced a TRY 100/mt decline in local scrap purchase prices over the past week, while the others have kept their prices unchanged, with their dollar-based prices declining by $3-5/mt amid the depreciation of the Turkish lira.

The general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has remained at TRY 15,700-18,600/mt, with the dollar-based quotations changing from $343-407/mt to $341-404/mt.
