Chinese domestic manganese ore prices have continued their slightly soft trend during the past week. The mainstream quotations of Australian lump ore with 46 percent Mn content currently stand at $5.87/dmtu (RMB 40/dmtu) at China’s Tianjin port, while offers of lump ore of 48 percent Mn content are at $6.38/mtu (RMB 43.5/dmtu). Also at Tianjin port, quotations for 44 percent grade Mn ore from Gabon are at $6.09/dmtu (RMB 41.5/dmtu), while offers of South African lump ore of 38 percent Mn content are at $5.57/dmtu (RMB 38/dmtu). ($1 = RMB 6.819)
Overall trading activity in the Chinese manganese ore market has slackened during the past seven days and is currently considered to be weak, while prices have softened a little, influenced by the reduced production volumes of manganese alloys. Meanwhile, the inventories of manganese ore at Chinese ports have remained at high levels, leading traders to offer discounts in order to close more deals. As for the week ahead, it is believed that manganese ore prices may just indicate small fluctuations.
