Chinese domestic manganese ore prices have followed a stable trend during the past week. The mainstream quotations of Australian lump ore with 46 percent Mn content currently stand at $5.87/dmtu (RMB 40/dmtu) at China’s Tianjin port, while offers of lump ore of 48 percent Mn content are at $6.38/mtu (RMB 43.5/dmtu). Also at Tianjin port, quotations for 44 percent grade Mn ore from Gabon are at $6.09/dmtu (RMB 41.5/dmtu), while offers of South African lump ore of 38 percent Mn content are at $5.57/dmtu (RMB 38/dmtu).
Overall trading activity in the Chinese manganese ore market has been sluggish over the past week. The downstream manganese alloy market has moved down a little, while manganese alloy production volumes have continued to decrease, continuing to exert pressure on manganese ore prices. However, foreign manganese ore producers’ quoted prices are still fluctuating at high levels, which has led most traders in China to keep their manganese ore quotations stable for now. As for the week ahead, it is believed that manganese ore prices may move sideways or down slightly as the off-season for business has begun.
