Chinese domestic manganese ore prices have mostly followed a stable trend in the past week, with some slight downticks also seen in prices. The mainstream quotations of Australian lump ore with 46 percent Mn content currently stand at $5.87/dmtu (RMB 40/dmtu) at China’s Tianjin port, while offers of lump ore of 48 percent Mn content are at $6.39/mtu (RMB 43.5/dmtu). Also at Tianjin port, quotations for 44 percent grade Mn ore from Gabon are at $6.02/dmtu (RMB 41/dmtu), while offers of South African lump ore of 38 percent Mn content are at $5.58/dmtu (RMB 38/dmtu).
Overall trading activity in the domestic manganese ore market has been slack during the past seven days due to the off-season for business, while prices have been mainly stable, though with small decreases seen in some prices amid the slightly soft trend of downstream manganese alloy prices. As for the week ahead, given the weakness of the demand side but the continuing strength of the cost side, it is believed that manganese ore prices in China may just fluctuate by small margins.
