Chinese domestic manganese ore prices have followed a slightly soft trend during the past week. The mainstream quotations of Australian lump ore with 46 percent Mn content currently stand at $6.04/dmtu (RMB 43/dmtu) at China’s Tianjin port, while offers of lump ore of 48 percent Mn content are at $6.11/mtu (RMB 43.5/dmtu). Also at Tianjin port, quotations for 44 percent grade Mn ore from Gabon are at $5.90/dmtu (RMB 42/dmtu), while offers of South African lump ore of 38 percent Mn content are at $4.78/dmtu (RMB 34/dmtu).

Overall trading activity in the domestic manganese ore market has improved slightly after prices declined, while downstream manganese alloy prices also decreased given the general softening of steel prices. The production volumes of manganese alloys and demand for manganese ore have increased lately. As for the week ahead, it is believed that manganese ore prices may just indicate minor fluctuations.
