The general consensus for the US domestic rebar market is relative steadiness in prices and buying activity through the remainder of summer, but some sources are already seeing “cracks in the stability” in the form of flexible pricing for large customers. Despite several import rebar sources being priced out of the market due to Section 232 tariffs, competition from low-priced imports from Turkey have given buyers an advantage in negotiations.
However, sources point out that small to medium-sized customers are still being held to the higher end of the price range, which is still around $41.50-$42.50 cwt. ($830-$850/nt or $915-$937/mt) ex-mill. Larger buyers, meanwhile, are now paying between $39.00-$39.50 cwt. ($780-$790/nt or $860-$871/mt) ex-mill.
