US import rebar offers high but demand starting to lag

US import rebar offers are reportedly closer to US domestic offers, but sources say demand for imports is not as strong. High-priced positions at the port remain unsold despite US domestic lead times stretching into early fall, and some sources say buyers are exhibiting reluctance based on uncertainty about how long the current uptrend can last. Current offers from Mexico are being heard at $45.00-$50.00 cwt. ($992-$1,102/mt or $900-$1,000/nt) DDP Houston, while offers from Turkey are in roughly the same range, DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports.
