Although import rebar offers from Turkey to the US started to edge up last week, the trend has stabilized again as buyers in the US resist booking at higher price levels. Sources tell SteelOrbis that there is “a bit of a disconnect” between US import and US domestic rebar prices—the two price levels trend together more often than not, but for now, US buyers are reportedly “fine” with the sharp uptrend in domestic prices while also insisting on low import quotes.

Traders tell SteelOrbis that their customers “want the best price before the antidumping hammer comes down,” and as demand starts to wane in line with the traditionally-slow holiday season, US rebar buyers are opting to fill inventory as needed and hold off on ordering for the future.

As such, imported rebar in the US domestic market from Turkey is still being sold in the range of $23.00-$24.00 cwt. ($460-$480/nt or $507-$529/mt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, reflecting no change in the last week.
