Local Turkish merchant bar prices have increased by TRY 100-225/mt in the past two weeks amid the currency fluctuations uncertain financial situation in Turkey, while only merchant bar prices in the Denizli and Izmir regions have risen slightly on US dollar basis on the back of higher billet prices. Sources report that special discounts are available for serious buyers and for cash payments. Most buyers are refraining from new purchases in order to monitor the import scrap price trend, while merchant bar re-rollers are trying to keep their prices stable due to their higher production costs, and specifically because of the recent natural gas price hikes.
Most Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are offering material for late December-early January delivery or limited tonnages available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill has raised its price by $10/mt for HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) to $950/mt ex-works over the past two weeks.
