SteelOrbis has heard that Turkish rolling mills are offering merchant bars for export at around $540-555/mt FOB St on actual weight basis for December / January shipments.
Although the demand for
merchant bar is generally low, the demand for I-beam, U-beam and H-beam are higher than that for
merchant bar. Consequently, there is a supply shortage for these goods.
South
Korea seems to be particularly active, especially in H-beam sales.
Turkey, which does not produce this item and previously imported it in the main from
Europe, is now importing from South
Korea.
