As of today, March 5, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have risen by TRY 200-400/mt ($3-7/mt) amid the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar and war-related risks, as compared to March 2. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,800-29,400/mt ($545-557/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 44.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have risen by $10/mt to $550-570/mt ex-works compared to March 2, while acceptable prices have also increased by $10/mt, to $545-565/mt ex-works, for cash payment, over the same period. One Izmir-based mill opened its rebar sales at TRY 29,100/mt ($551/mt) ex-works today, with an increase of TRY 400/mt ($7/mt) over the same period.
An Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price today at TRY 29,400/mt ($557/mt), indicating an increase of TRY 400/mt ($7/mt) compared to March 2. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 28,800-29,000/mt ($545-549/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 300-400/mt ($5-7/mt) over the same period.
One Marmara-based mill today closed its rebar sales until Monday, March 9.
Most buyers are in wait-and-see mode due to the unclear financial and political situation in the country.
