Turkish domestic rebar spot prices fall sharply on dollar basis

On June 3, Turkish domestic rebar spot prices have decreased by TRY 20-30/mt in the Marmara and Iskenderun regions, while remaining unchanged in the Izmir and Karabuk regions since earlier this week. However, on US dollar basis, rebar prices in the country have fallen by $15-18/mt depending on the region, due to tepid local demand and currency fluctuations. Accordingly, 12 mm rebar spot prices in Turkey are now at TRY 7,000-7,070/mt or $682-689/mt ex-warehouse, depending on the region.

Mills are still quoting higher prices than traders, although some discounts have been provided. Icdas has cut its official rebar price by $40/mt to $700/mt ex-works today. Most Marmara and Izmir region-based mills are currently offering official rebar prices at $700-720/mt ex-works. Additional discounts are available for serious buyers. According to sources, some local traders have also closed their rebar sales to avoid the negative effect of currency fluctuations.

As of today, rebar offers in the Turkish spot market are as follows:
