As of today, April 17, Turkish domestic rebar spot prices have fallen by TRY 300-500/mt ($7-12/mt) against the backdrop of sluggish demand and weaker import scrap prices, compared to Monday, April 14. Accordingly, 12 mm rebar spot prices in Turkey have settled at TRY 24,700-25,500/mt or $540-558/mt ex-warehouse, depending on the region, at an exchange rate of $1 = TRY 38.11.
The official rebar prices in the Marmara and Izmir regions vary at $540-595/mt ex-works, including Icdas A.S.’s prices, down by $20/mt on the lower end, while the workable rebar prices in these regions vary at $540-560/mt, down by $10-15/mt over the same period, for cash payment only.
One Iskenderun-based mill has issued its rebar prices at TRY 25,750/mt ($563/mt) ex-works today. Sources report the workable rebar price in this region is close to TRY 24,800-25,000/mt ($542-547/mt) ex-works due to the aggressive pricing policy.
One Samsun-based mill has closed its rebar sales until Monday, April 21.
The Turkish Central Bank has raised interest rates from 42.5 percent to 46 percent today. The general sentiment on the demand side is still negative.
