Most merchant bar producers in Turkey have preferred to keep their TRY-based offers for the local market stable over the past two weeks, while the US dollar equivalent has moved up by $11/mt. Only in the Iskenderun region have prices decreased by TRY 95/mt, remaining unchanged on US dollar basis.
Turkish suppliers are giving special discounts for serious buyers. Sources report around $15-20/mt discounts are in question due to the rapid currency fluctuations in the country.
Overall, domestic offers are expected to be revised after the holiday period, considering the negative sentiment in the import scrap segment. The Turkish Central Bank’s interest rate decision due on Wednesday, July 14, is another important issue.
Most merchant bar re-rollers are still offering for September-early October delivery, while a limited tonnage is also available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill is also keeping its HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at around $940-950/mt ex-works.
