Local Turkish merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 470-1,105/mt ($25-60/mt) compared to mid-week against the backdrop of higher energy prices, the positive sentiment in the import billet segment and rapid currency fluctuations.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering for late September-early October delivery and only limited tonnages are available from stocks. Sources report that official HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) prices is expected to gain clarity by next week but it will definitely rise. A few mills are currently starting to offer $1,025/mt ex-works, SteelOrbis has heard.
