Demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market has remained at low levels during the past two weeks, while buyers have left the market amid the high volatility of the Turkish lira-US exchange rate and are currently maintaining a wait-and-see stance.
On the other hand, producers in the local Turkish merchant bar market have passed on higher production costs, resulting from the sharp depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, to their offers. This decision have caused a significant rise in domestic merchant bar prices in Turkey as compared to prices levels recorded two weeks ago. Demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market is not expected to improve in the short term amid currency impact and also due to the approaching Feast of Sacrifice holiday which will last a full week starting from August 20.
