As of today, September 25, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have remained unchanged on Turkish lira basis, with minor changes on US dollar basis amid the ongoing currency fluctuations, compared to September 22. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 26,300-27,100/m ($528-545/m) ex-warehouse, depending on the region and with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 41.47.
Official offers for cash payments for rebar in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, are stable compared to September 22, remaining in the $535-$555/m ex-works range, while acceptable prices are recorded in the $530-$545/m ex-works range.
Meanwhile, a producer in İskenderun announced today its official rebar price at TRY 27,500/mt ($553/mt) ex-works, down by only $1/mt on US dollar basis. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills have offered rebar to serious buyers today, up TRY 200/mt ($3/mt) on the lower end of the price range of TRY 26,700-26,900/mt ($537-$541/mt) ex-warehouse.
The general sentiment on the demand side is still negative. The main reasons are the ongoing depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, the limited access to bank loans, which are at high interest rates, as well as reluctance to pile up stocks and handle VAT issues as the end of the month approaches.
