As of today, October 20, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have mostly fallen by TRY 100-200/mt ($3-6/mt) amid sluggish demand, only remaining stable in the local currency in the Izmir region, while declining by $1-2/mt on US dollar basis amid ongoing currency fluctuations, as compared to October 16. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 27,200-28,000/mt ($540-556/m) ex-warehouse, depending on the region and with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 41.95.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have also fallen by $5/mt on the higher end compared to October 16, to $545-570/m ex-works, while acceptable prices are standing at $545-$560/m ex-works, unchanged over the same period.
Meanwhile, a producer in Iskenderun today announced its official rebar price at TRY 28,300/mt ($562/mt) ex-works. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills have offered rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 27,500-27,700/mt ($546-550/mt) ex-warehouse, amid sluggish demand. All rebar prices in the Iskenderun region have remained unchanged in the local currency, while indicating a decrease of $2/mt on US dollar basis due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira over the same period.
A Samsun-based mill has extended the closure of its rebar sales until Monday, October 27.
Most local buyers are maintaining a wait-and-see stance as regards new purchases ahead of the Turkish Central Bank's interest rate decision due on Thursday, October 23.
