As of today, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market mostly have fallen by TRY 100-300/mt ($2-7/mt) compared to August 21, except in the Marmara region where prices have remained unchanged on lira basis with minor changes on US dollar basis, amid the ongoing exchange rate fluctuations and weak demand. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now trading at TRY 26,200-27,000 /mt ($533-549/mt) ex-warehouse, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 41.
Official cash offers for rebar in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including prices from İçdaş, have remained stable from August 21 at $540-$560/mt ex-works, while acceptable prices have also remained unchanged at $535-$545/mt ex-works during the given period.
Meanwhile, today a producer in Iskenderun announced its official rebar price at TRY 26,850/m ($546/m) ex-works. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 26,500-26,800/mt ($539-545/mt) ex-warehouse, versus TRY 26,600-26,900/mt ($542-548/mt) on August 21.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative due to the rapid depreciation of the Turkish lira against US dollar. Moreover, most mills are applying aggressive prices to generate cash as the month is about to end.
