As of today, October 23, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by TRY 100-200/mt ($2-4/mt) against the backdrop of the sluggish demand in the Iskenderun and Karabuk regions, while remaining stable both in the local currency and on US dollar basis in the rest of the country, as compared to October 20. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 27,200-28,000/m ($540-556/m) ex-warehouse, depending on the region and with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 41.98.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş's prices, have also fallen, by $10/mt on the higher end compared to October 20, to $545-560/mt ex-works, while acceptable prices are standing at $540-$555/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt over the same period.
Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills have offered rebar to serious buyers today at TRY 27,600-27,700/mt ($548-550/mt) ex-warehouse, while a few re-rollers are applying aggressive pricing policy and even testing TRY 27,300-27,500/mt ($542-546/mt) ex-warehouse, falling by TRY 200/mt ($4/mt) over the same period.
The Turkish Central Bank has reduced interest rates from 40.5 percent to 39.5 percent today.
