A major Brazilian importer of long products told SteelOrbis that he is importing rebar, CA-50 grade, 10mm thickness, chiefly from Turkey, CFR at $550/mt, slightly reduced from one month ago.
The source added that the product remains sold at very high prices within the Brazilian domestic market, but due to the reduced domestic demand, the closing prices are showing a wide variation, depending on tonnages involved and the bargaining position of the seller: “If the distributor needs cash, he will give a significant discount to close the deal,” the source said, adding that, nonetheless, he will maintain the company’s program of imports with fresh acquisitions abroad.
Meanwhile, a local rebar producer in the southeast told SteelOrbis that he is selling the same CA-50 / 10mm product in the domestic market, CFR, full taxes to southeastern clients at BRL2,500/mt ($974/mt), stable over one month in BRL, but reduced by 3.4 percent in $ terms.
Another producer, located in the northeast, said he is selling the same product to southeastern clients, CFR, full taxes conditions at BRL2,580/mt ($1,007/mt), against BRL 2,610 ($1,018/mt) three weeks ago.
