Brazilian producers are negotiating rebar for export to South American countries in a price range of $550/mt to $570/mt FOB conditions for the CA-50 grade, stable for the second consecutive week.

In January, ArcelorMittal exported 38,800 mt of rebar at $603/mt, while Gerdau exported 13,100 mt at $527/mt. The main destinations were South American countries (46,200 mt at $579/mt) and the US (5,700 mt at $622/mt), all FOB conditions.

Brazilian producers of long products are reportedly having difficulties with competitiveness in terms of accessing other markets, due to the high energy rates they pay to operate their electric arc furnaces (EAF); as such, they remain focused on the more logistically-favored markets of South America.
