Longs producers from some North African countries have been offering rebar for export within the past weeks. In particular, Algeria’s Tosyali Algerie is in the market with $440-445/mt FOB for December shipments, while Morocco’s Sonasid is offering rebar for November-December shipments at $430-435/mt FOB. In addition, Libyan Iron & Steel has been pricing its rebar to be shipped in November at $420/mt FOB, SteelOrbis has learned.
North African rebar offers, however, are considered as largely not competitive in the Mediterranean region, taking into account the much lower prices coming from Turkey. In particular, Turkish rebar is available in the market mainly at $400-405/mt FOB for November shipments, while some Turkish mills are quoting slightly higher than that.
It is worth mentioning that, while countries like Israel, Lebanon and some African buyers will most probably prefer to buy from Turkey, the suppliers from North Africa might have some chance to sell to the EU since the Turkish quota in this market is already filled. In particular, Tosyali Algerie has the needed certifications for the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Belgium, sources say. In addition, according to market players, Sonasid has been aiming to start cooperation with French longs importers.
