No significant change has been observed in the local Turkish merchant bar market since SteelOrbis’ last report published on January 18. In the same period, tight billet supply in Turkey has prevented domestic billet prices from decreasing sharply despite the declines recorded in import scrap quotations. As a result, production costs of Turkish merchant bar producers have remained stable and the discounts initially foreseen in the market have failed to materialize. Additionally, domestic merchant bar prices in some regions have increased with the influence of demand. Meanwhile, prices in the local Turkish billet market, where supply is already at low levels, are showing a tendency to increase due to the upward movement of import scrap prices seen as of today, February 8, as their downtrend ended at the beginning of the current week. With the approach of spring, restocking activities are expected to accelerate due to the anticipated revival of construction activities, and this is also expected to provide support for domestic merchant bar prices in Turkey.
