Over the past two weeks, Turkey’s local merchant bar prices have increased quite significantly in the local currency, in the local currency, which has been reflected in a considerable rise on US dollar basis. Only the producers in the Iskenderun region have chosen to keep their dollar prices stable.
According to sources, special discounts are applicable for serious buyers and the gap between the official list prices and workable prices has widened these days. The key reason is that most buyers are exerting pressure for further discounts due to the sluggish demand in the local market.
Most merchant bar re-rollers are offering for September-early October delivery, while a limited tonnage is also available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill is currently offering HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) at around $940-950/mt ex-works.
