While the domestic demand for longs in Algeria remains moderate and overall satisfactory for mills, some slight adjustments were made.

The wire rod market is still somewhat livelier compared to the rebar segment, which has resulted in a DZD 1,000/mt price increase by Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) to DZD 76,250/mt ex-works, SteelOrbis has learned. Tosyali Algerie has left its wire rod offers at DZD 74,500/mt ex-works, but might revise the level shortly. On the US dollar basis the producers are offering wire rod at $534/mt ex-works and $522/mt ex-works, respectively.

Rebar is offered by both mills at $508/mt (DZD 66,500/mt) ex-works with the offer from Tosyali Algerie, stable since early January. But for AQS this is a $7/mt (DZD 500/mt) decrease over the same period. “It is an adjustment to a more workable level,” a local trader mentioned.

Prices on US dollar basis exclude 9 and 19 percent VAT for rebar and wire rod, respectively.
