As of today, February 19, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by TRY 100-300/mt ($2-7/mt) compared to February 16, amid ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,500-29,100/mt ($543-554/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.77. A few local traders are still applying aggressive pricing policies and giving sizeable discounts in order to generate cash.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $550-565/mt ex-works, unchanged compared to February 16, while acceptable prices are still at $545-560/mt ex-works, for cash payment, also stable over the same period.
One Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price today at TRY 28,600/mt ($545/mt), indicating a decrease of TRY 100/mt ($2/mt) compared to February 16. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 28,600-28,700/mt ($545-546/mt) ex-warehouse, down TRY 100-200/mt ($2-5/mt) as compared to February 16.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative as Ramadan begins today.
