Turkish rebar mills have started the post-holiday week with a significant price increase in the domestic market amid slightly positive demand expectations for spring, higher expectations for import scrap and billet prices, and the impact of the war in the Middle East. However, although some sales have been done in some regions, buyers are still purchasing according to their daily requirements and are avoiding piling up significant stocks.
Official rebar offers and workable prices for cash payment in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $580-590/mt ex-works and $575-585/mt ex-works, respectively, as compared to March 12. These prices indicate an increase of $10-20/mt over the same period. One Izmir-based mill opened its rebar sales at TRY 30,800/mt ($579/mt) ex-works today, with an increase of TRY 1,000/mt ($15/mt) over the same period. According to sources, around 10,000-20,000 mt have been traded in the Izmir region at $575-580/mt ex-works.
One of the Iskenderun region-based mills has set its official rebar price today at TRY 30,500/mt ($573/mt) ex-works, also up by TRY 500/mt ($6/mt) compared to March 12. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 30,300-30,400/mt ($569-571/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 900/mt ($14/mt) over the same period.
Domestic mills’ higher rebar prices have triggered another increase in the spot market by TRY 1,000/mt ($15-16/mt). Currently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are in the range of TRY 30,500-31,000/mt ($573-582/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region.
