As of today, March 12, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have increased by another TRY 200-300/mt ($3-6/mt), following the increase in mills’ offers by up to $5/mt today amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and war-related risks.
Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 29,500-30,000/mt ($557-567/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 44,11.
Official rebar offers and workable prices for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have increased by $5/mt to $560-580/mt ex-works and $555-575/mt ex-works, respectively, as compared to March 9. One Izmir-based mill opened its rebar sales at TRY 29,800/mt ($564/mt) ex-works today, with an increase of TRY 300/mt ($6/mt) over the same period. According to sources small tonnage of rebar were traded at $550-555/mt ex-works in the Izmir region yesterday.
An Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price today at TRY 30,000/mt ($567/mt) ex-works, indicating an increase of TRY 300/mt ($6/mt) compared to March 9. Even TRY 30,500/mt ($576/mt) ex-works is being tested in the Iskenderun this afternoon. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 29,400-29,500/mt ($555-557/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 300-400/mt ($5-7/mt) over the same period.
Today, the Turkish Central Bank has as expected decided to keep interest rates unchanged at 37 percent.
Most buyers are only purchasing in line with their daily needs.
