Local Turkish merchant bar prices up sharply amid higher scrap prices

In the last two weeks, Turkish merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 1,175-1,380/mt over the past two weeks amid rapid currency fluctuations and higher import scrap and billet prices. “Trading activity is slow in the local market due to the rapid price hikes, with lower purchasing power at the buyers’ end. As a result, most merchant buyers are delaying new purchases,” one source commented.

Most Turkish merchant bar re-rollers are offering material for December delivery or limited tonnages available from stocks. An Izmir-based mill has increased its price by $70/mt for HEA/HEB (100-200 mm, standard) to $940/mt ex-works over the same period.
