Most Turkish rebar producers as well as local traders have cut their rebar prices in order to generate cash. As a result, local rebar prices have fallen sharply since the beginning of this week, though demand is still sluggish.
Official rebar offers and workable prices from the mills in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have fallen by $5-10/mt to $605-615/mt ex-works and $600-610/mt, respectively, as compared to April 6. One Izmir-based mill has set its official rebar price at TRY 32,000/mt ($598/mt) ex-works today, April 9, indicating a decrease of TRY 500/mt ($9/mt) over the same period.
One of the Iskenderun region-based mills has closed its official rebar sales for today and tomorrow and has decided to sell on an individual order basis. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 31,400-31,500/mt ($587-589/mt) ex-warehouse, down by TRY 600-700/mt ($11-13/mt) since April 6 due to the ceasefire between Iran and the US. Most buyers in the Iskenderun region seem to be postponing their purchases. "Most Iskenderun-based traders seem to be focusing on the other regions of Turkey for possible rebar sales as they are seeking to generate cash with aggressive pricing policies," one source commented.
Currently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are in the range of TRY 31,500-32,000/mt ($589-598/mt) ex-warehouse, also falling by TRY 500/mt ($9/mt) compared to April 6, depending on the region. Even a few local traders are rumored to be giving prices slightly below the abovementioned rebar spot price range in order to generate cash.
