Chinese domestic steel section prices have continued their slightly soft trend during the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have moved down during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 2,990/mt ($439/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,010/mt ($442/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,090/mt ($453/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam steel section offer prices from the ports of Shanghai or Tianjin stand at $489-524/mt FOB as of today, Monday, June 22, declining compared to June 15.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been sluggish during the past week, while prices have softened by small margins again, also against the backdrop of the decreases seen in billet prices, though they have been supported by reductions in steel section production volumes and inventories. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices will continue to indicate slight declines.
