Long steel prices from southern Europe have indicated a certain weakening amid limited business activity and the generally sliding market globally.
Rebar export prices from Italy and Spain have been reported at €400-405/mt ($438-$444/mt) FOB and €410/mt ($449/mt) FOB, respectively, both down by around €10-15/mt since the beginning of September. In addition, offers from Greece have been reported at €425/mt ($466/mt) CFR to Romania, equivalent to €410-415/mt ($449-$455/mt) FOB, for October shipments. In the local markets, rebar offers are at €420/mt ($460/mt) ex-works in Italy and at around €430/mt ($471/mt) DDP in Spain. In western Europe, according to market sources, rebar is available at €465-480/mt ($509-526/mt) DDP.
In the wire rod segment, export prices have decreased by the same amount, coming to €420-425/mt ($460-466/mt) FOB Italy and €425-430/mt ($466-471/mt) FOB Spain, SteelOrbis has learned. Domestic offers in the mentioned countries are at €435/mt ($477/mt) ex-works and €435-440/mt ($477-482/mt) ex-works, respectively. However, some sources report €435-440/mt ($477-482/mt) DDP is also available in the south of Europe. In the meantime, current local prices for mesh grade wire rod in western Europe are at €480-490/mt ($509-537/mt) DDP, with local mesh grade wire rod prices in the Netherlands in particular at €450/mt ($493/mt) DDP, market sources state.
