Domestic rebar prices in Turkey follow diverse trends

Domestic rebar prices in Turkey’s Iskenderun and Karabuk regions have remained stable today, May 6, as compared to price levels recorded on Friday, May 3, while in the Marmara and Izmir regions prices have increased by TRY 20/mt due to the depreciation of the Turkish lira. Turkish rebar traders report that buyers are reluctant to conclude new deals due to the Turkish lira depreciating to TRY 6.01 to the dollar today. Additionally, today’s meeting of the Turkish Supreme Electoral Council is being closely monitored by market players since the decision of the council may cause a further depreciation of the Turkish lira.

Today, Turkish mill Icdas has increased its 12-32 mm rebar prices by TRY 10/mt to TRY 2,880/mt ($479/mt) ex-works, while Izmir Demir Celik has announced its 12-32 mm rebar prices at TRY 2,881/mt ($479/mt) ex-works, both excluding VAT.

As of today, May 6, rebar offers in the Turkish spot market are as follows:
