Chinese domestic steel section prices have declined during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have fluctuated on a soft trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,850/mt ($751/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 4,870/mt ($754/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,950/mt ($767/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity for steel sections has been weak due to the off-season and the recent large fluctuations in prices. Production volumes have recently declined due to some production restrictions in certain areas. Prices of billet and other raw materials have softened, causing steel section prices to follow suit. As for the week ahead, considering the weakness of the demand side and weakness of raw material prices, it is believed that section steel prices may continue to decline.
