Chinese domestic steel section prices have fluctuated on an upward trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have indicated an upward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 5,330/mt ($826/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 5,350/mt ($829/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 5,430/mt ($842/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Chinese steel section prices have been supported in the past week by increases in prices of billet and other raw materials. Meanwhile, trading activity has increased, leading most traders to raise their quoted prices. As for the week ahead, considering that demand has not fully recovered while cost-side support is still strong, it is believed that steel section prices may continue to rise slightly.
