Chinese domestic steel section prices have indicated fluctuations with a mostly slightly reduced trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have slightly decreased during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,080/mt ($451/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,100/mt ($454/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,180/mt ($466/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam section steel offer prices from Shanghai or Tianjin ports stand at $523-558/mt FOB as of today, Monday, May 25, registering a decrease compared to May 18.
Chinese steel section prices have followed a trend of first declining and then rebounding during the past week and closed mostly lower compared to last week. Overall trading activity has been at a normal level. Upstream billet prices have moved down, which has put certain pressure on section prices. Meanwhile, demand slowed down recently due to summer weather in certain areas. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may see fluctuations within a small margin.
