Chinese domestic steel section prices have fluctuated in the past week, with a minor decline week on week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have showed a slight downward trend during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 4,720/mt ($706/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 4,750/mt ($710/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 4,820/mt ($720/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has not matched expectations and has been weak after the Labor Day holiday, causing most traders to slightly reduce their quoted prices in order to close more deals. Upstream billet prices have also showed a slight downtrend. As for the week ahead, considering public health measures may keep influencing transportation and the demand side, while supply may rise a little, it is believed that steel section prices may indicate a further slight softening.
