Chinese domestic steel section prices have fluctuated with slightly upward trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have followed a downtrend with fluctuations during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,490/mt ($485/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,510/mt ($488/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,590/mt ($499/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity has been weak. Steel future market prices recently showed a sharp decline which caused certain traders to reduce their prices today. As for the supply side, the production volume has remained at normal levels but since demand side has been under the influence of the off-season and raining weather, market inventory level has increased again. As for the week ahead, considering the demand side may remain weak, it is believed that steel section prices may follow a fluctuating trend with slight downticks.
